Council backs step-free stations

16 Sep 2018

Merton Council has passed a Liberal Democrat motion to help get lifts and ramps at local stations.

The plan commits the Council to look into positive action it could take to improve accessibility of stations across the borough, including encouraging and assisting train companies to apply for funding designed to make more stations in Merton accessible, and step-free.

Cllr Hina Bokhari, Liberal Democrat Councillor for West Barnes ward said:

"This is an issue that local Liberal Democrats have been campaigning on for years, and I'm so pleased that Merton Council is now committed to taking positive action to improve accessibility of our stations."

"As a local parent I know how difficult it can be to access stations like Raynes Park and Motspur Park with young children in buggies, and it creates serious issues for anyone with mobility issues. Making our stations accessible to everyone needs to be a priority."

The motion passed with an amendment by Labour councillors.
