The Government refuses to block plans for 50m tall office block at St George’s House East

The Government has refused to block planning permission for the huge office block in the centre of Wimbledon. Local Liberal Democrats previously tried to close a loophole to limit maximum building heights in Wimbledon town centre, but Labour and Conservative councillors failed to support it.

Cllr Paul Kohler said: “We’re bitterly disappointed that the Government is supporting this huge and inappropriate development, despite strong opposition from residents. The 12-storey office block will now set a precedent, permanently altering Wimbleon’s skyline and paving the way for even taller buildings in the town centre.”
