Step-Free Stations Success!

In January, Local Lib Dems were thrilled to attend the opening of the lift in Motspur Park station, the latest win in their decade-long campaign for step-free stations across our community.
Before this, the platform was only accessible by stairs, presenting significant difficulties for wheelchair users, parents with prams and others with mobility problems. This new lift will be transformative, allowing them to travel with dignity and safety.
At first, proposals for step-free access were not supported by Merton’s Labour Council and rejected by Network Rail. However, local Lib Dems did not give up fighting for inclusivity, and the Council eventually agreed to provide the necessary funding.
West Barnes Cllr Hina Bhokari said: “Making transport accessible is so important, and the Liberal Democrats will continue to ensure that public transport in Merton and beyond is an option for everyone.”
