Councillor Paul Kohler
Cllr Paul Kohler hit the headlines when he took the Mayor of London to court over the decision to close Wimbledon Police Station. Cllr Kohler's legal action was successful and Wimbledon police station was saved pending reconsideration by the Mayor. Although we are still awaiting a final decision, the station's medium term future is now secure since being chosen to house the joint emergency response unit covering all of Merton & Wandsworth.
The police station campaign helped Cllr Kohler win election in May 2018 as a councillor for Trinity ward in Wimbledon – an election which saw the Lib Dems surge from fourth place to first, almost tripling their vote share. Paul has lived in Wimbledon for the last 30 years with his wife, Samantha, and their four daughters. He became a local councillor to help improve the area for local people and to give something back to the community that has been so supportive to them. Paul sits on the Licensing Committee and the Overview and Scrutiny Commission.
