South Park Road Planning Application

An application has been submitted to Merton Council for prior approval to add an extra storey to the existing block of flats at 8 South Park Garden (full details here). I believe this is the first application in Wimbledon which is seeking to use the government's new `permitted development' rights. 

There are 13 similar blocks of flats in Wimbledon Town Centre. If Merton Council grant prior approval to this application it will set a precedent, making it difficult for the council to object to other applications in the future. The extra storeys would permanently blight Wimbledon's skyline, while doing nothing to address the lack of affordable housing.

We, the undersigned, call on Merton Council to object to Planning application 20/P2723: 8 South Park Road on the grounds of appearance, amenity and effect on the nearby conservation area, and insist that a formal planning application be made.
