Flooding has become a serious concern for thousands of residents across Merton, especially in Raynes Park, West Barnes and Wimbledon Chase as the effects of the Climate Emergency become all too apparent in our area. The problem cannot be ignored or down-played any longer!
Thames Water, the Environment Agency and Merton Council have failed to address the issue by regular and proactive cleaning of the drains, gullies and sewers. Moreover they need to work together and collectively agree what action needs to be taken and get on with the significant works clearly required to address the problem on a longer term basis. Climate Change is real and affecting our area today. Supposedly 'once in 30 year floods' are now happening multiple times a year! Thames Water, the Environment Agency and Merton Council need to listen to local residents and take the problem more seriously by taking urgent and significant action.
We the undersigned demand urgent action by Merton Council, the Environment Agency and Thames Water to address both the short and long term issues causing the frequent flooding across Merton, especially in Raynes Park, West Barnes and Wimbledon Chase.
