Free school meals

As the Conservative Government - including Wimbledon's MP - voted against providing Free School Meals over the school holidays, local Liberal Democrats are calling on Merton Council to act to reduce the number of children going hungry over the holidays.

Councils such as Kingston are putting in place arrangements to ensure that the families that need them get access to food vouchers during this half-term holiday and over the Christmas period.

Sign the petition asking Merton to do the same below!

We, the undersigned, call on Merton Council to implement a food voucher scheme as soon as possible, to support families over the school holidays.

We suggest that the Council pause printing and delivering the next few issues of its magazine My Merton to help pay for this (it costs the Council around £44,000 a year net to pay for this). We also think a scheme for local donations from residents and businesses could be investigated.
