End Merton's investment in fossil fuels

Liberal Democrat Councillors on Merton Council are calling for the Council to end its investment in fossil fuels.

The Council’s pension fund is one of several local authority pension funds that invest a combined £10 billion in coal, oil and gas industries.

Burning fossil fuels contributes significantly to global warming. It is environmentally irresponsible that our Council continues to invest in them through its pension fund.

At the Council meeting on 17th November both Labour and Conservative councillors refused to back this straightforward measure to support the council's Climate Emergency goals. A similar proposal was also rejected in September.

Please sign the petition calling on Merton Council to take real action on the climate emergency and dispose of shares its pension fund holds in fossil fuel companies.

We the undersigned demand Merton Council dispose of shares its pension fund holds in fossil fuel companies.
