Cannon Hill Ward

Councillor Jenifer Gould

J Gould profile

A hard working Liberal Democrat councillor with a passion to protect the natural environment and raise the issue of climate breakdown.

At present I have chosen to home school our son, which has been an amazing time!  Previously, I have worked as a Projects Administrator in a fast paced telecommunications company.  This experience provided skills useful as a Councillor today, working well under pressure, organisational ability and communicating at all levels to achieve a positive outcome.

I became involved in politics by protesting about road safety issues at our local school.  I became the voice for those in the community who didn't have the ability to champion the needs of the children.  Winning the Cannon Hill by-election was a huge accomplishment for the local Party and one I was very proud to have been part of.   I believe I have continued to raise the profile of the Party within the Cannon Hill Community, alongside the Lib Dem campaigning, canvassing and community engagement which I thoroughly enjoy, and I regularly attend local community Groups and Forums, SNT meetings.  I have raised many local issues from residents with the Council from a steady flow of casework.

I am part of the Merton Mutual Aid Network in Cannon Hill and coordinate collections for the Wimbledon Foodbank.  I value local community and family life with our 4 children (3 now grown up).  This helps drive my political motivations to seek the best future for our family, friends and local community.  Moving from the South coast to London over 10 years ago increased my awareness and love of the diversity within our commuity.  With our shared expectations we hope to achieve the best outcomes for our families, along with a better, more equal way of life.  Along with other like minded environmental enthusiasts we have set up a Greening Merton Group which has looked at opportunities to increase biodiversity across Merton - recently we won our first successful funding bid for a new wildlife corridor in Mitcham.  When I have time, I love gardening, particularly growing plants for wildlife.  My husband and I share a hobby running our own honey business from the bee hives in our garden.  I also enjoy walking our spaniel Saffy, who has become somewhat notorious in Lib Dem circles!
