Shas Sheehan was selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Wimbledon in October 2008. At the London Assembly elections in 2008, she was the candidate for the Merton & Wandsworth seat. Following her selection, Shas said: "I am delighted to have been selected as the Parliamentary Candidate for Wimbledon. Working with the Merton Party during the London Assembly elections earlier this year, I saw their enormous dedication, energy and commitment and I'm looking forward to working with them again. "There is no reason why Wimbledon should not join the yellow swathe across South West London, and I intend to build on the work of the local Party and make further inroads in terms of share of the vote and take council seats in 2010. "On the issues that really matter: civil liberties, crime, climate change, the economy, education and the NHS, there is only one Party consistently coming up with the right policies; so let's work together to give Wimbledon a Liberal Democrat voice on Merton Council and in Westminster". Shas has local roots. She was educated at Franciscan school and Graveney school, after her parents moved here from Pakistan.
