October 2008 - Wimbledon Lib Dems select Parliamentary candidate: At a packed meeting, Shas Sheehan was selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the next General Election. Shas said: “I am delighted to have been chosen as the candidate. There is no reason why Wimbledon should not join the 'yellow swathe' across South West London. October 2008 - Switch off : save more: With national economic conditions deteriorating, many Wimbledon residents are struggling with rising energy bills, mortgages and more expensive food. Dunonald Liberal Democracts Anthony Fairclough and Alain Desmier have launched the Switch Off : Save More campaign. Local Lib Dems are knocking on doors in Wimbledon, talking to people about how they can start saving on their energy bills, whilst also helping them reduce their carbon footprint. June 2008 - Merton Conservatives in turmoil?
Residents were shocked by the news that West Barnes councillor Angela Caldara has quit the Conservative group on Merton Council. Anthony Fairclough, Merton Liberal Democrats chairman, said: "One West Barnes Tory councillor, Jonathan Warne, is already based in Glasgow for work. Residents could get a raw deal now that the remaining Tories are squabbling amongst themselves. West Barnes needs three full time councillors to ensure that people can have their say in council decisions. The Lib Dem team works all year round to improve the neighbourhood. Francesca Woodhouse, Nazir Malik, Mary-Jane Jeanes and the rest of the West Barnes Focus Team have resolved many problems for local people. And in the 2006 council elections, Mary-Jane was only 80 votes behind the Conservatives".
