WAR IN IRAQ Print E-mail
January 2005

In our recent online poll, 78% of respondents supported the view that the war in Iraq has not made the world a safer place.

Britain was led into a potentially illegal war in Iraq under false pretences by Tony Blair and the Labour party (supported by Wimbledon MP Roger Casale) – with the full backing of the Conservatives. Only the Liberal Democrats voiced consistent opposition and voted against the war.

National security is crucial, but always best achieved through international cooperation. Liberal Democrats would work to reform international institutions to make them more responsive and effective in dealing with crises.
